Explore the Cresheim Creek Trail in Northwest Philadelphia on a guided hike with Friends of the Cresheim Trail. Learn about an exciting rails to trails project with a nature filled hike in Northwest Philadelphia. This walk is part of Feet First Philly’s 10 Walks for 10 Years celebration of a decade of pedestrian advocacy in Philadelphia.
The Friends of the Cresheim Trail is a non-profit, volunteer, community initiative working to build a multi-use trail in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties primarily along an old railroad right-of-way. Their current focus is connecting the Cresheim Trail (in the Wissahickon Woods) in Fairmount Park Philadelphia with neighborhoods long separated from the park through the progress of development, county boundaries, roads and the ebb and flow of the region.
We’ll meet at High Point Cafe at Allen Lane SEPTA Rail Rail Station (arrive early to grab coffee) and catch the Chestnut Hill West Line to join the walk via transit. Train fare is not included. Use cash or SEPTA key card to board Regional Rail trains. From there, we will walk directly across the street from the station into Wissahickon Valley Park and to the Cresheim Trail.
This walk is almost 2.5 miles in length. Terrain is variable with hills, please wear appropriate shoes for hiking. This is not an all-abilities walk.
When the walk is over, join Feet First Philly and Friends of the Cresheim Trail at Mount Airy Tap Room (300 W Mt Pleasant Ave.) for food and beverages. Mount Airy taproom features new American cuisine with a large variety of sandwiches and craft beers on tap. It is pay-as-you go. You can return to High Point Cafe by walking.
