Illegally parked cars — whether parked in a crosswalk, in the median, or on a sidewalk — make the pedestrian environment unsafe and sometimes deadly by forcing people into the street, hindering travel for those with disabilities, and reducing visibility for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers at intersections.
Feet First Philly is building a database with times and locations to show local decision makers how wide-spread this issue is and help to implement sustainable solutions that don’t involve calling the police like design improvements, and increasing the presence of the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
