Feet First Philly recently partnered with the East Falls Development Corporation to explore the neighborhood’s business corridors and talk about the area’s pedestrian environment. More than a dozen residents, business owners, and representatives joined the tour to learn about new, forthcoming and proposed neighborhood improvements such as:  lighting, public art, housing, greening, park, safety and transportation projects – including new bike racks generously funded through Feet First Philly’s mini-grant program, and three recently installed Indego Bike Share stations.

The first of two stops along the tour was Inn Yard Park, adjacent to  the Schuylkill River. The group discussed the benefits of being in close proximity to such an amazing natural body of water, as well as the challenges the River’s surrounding road infrastructure presents in terms of driver speed, congestion, and pollution and solutions that are being implemented.

As the tour turned up Midvale Avenue, participants were introduced to new businesses opening their doors on the corridor and four new transit oriented developments that will add more than 700 units to the area with access to rail line, three bus lines and the 75 mile Schuylkill River Trail as transportation and recreation options for their tenants. Finally the group made it to our last stop at Vault and Vine, where we were welcomed by cold ice teas and a beautiful jungle of house plants.
