Who is the Neighborhood Gardens Trust?

The Neighborhood Gardens Trust (NGT) is a land trust that is dedicated to the preservation and support of community gardens and other shared open spaces across the city. NGT partners with grassroots organizers and community leaders to lower barriers to space preservation. They assist with getting control of the land, insurance, tax exemptions, water service, and other resources and improvements.

Why community gardens?

Community gardens can offer so many benefits; environmental, health, social, and economic impacts can be felt across neighborhoods. The dedicated green space in otherwise concrete urban areas can act as an oasis for both the residents and the ecosystem. Philadelphians can grow fresh produce to feed their families and friends, and learn valuable skills in the process. Neighbors can get to know each other better in a formerly neglected property. Kids can spend time outdoors and help create beauty in their own space. All of these positive impacts create ripples in communities, reaching outwards to do more and more good.
