On Friday, March 22nd, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia hosted the city’s 10th Annual Vision Zero Conference. This year’s theme was Vision Zero at a Crossroads, and many experts shared their knowledge and the work they have been doing to enhance the goals of Vision Zero. Speakers included local and state-level elected officials, city staff, community leaders, and advocates. The full-day conference also provided the opportunity for individuals and groups like Feet First Philly to demonstrate through postering the ways they have contributed to Vision Zero goals in Philadelphia.

Feet First Philly’s Public Space Enhancement Mini-grant program, which is supported by Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health, has contributed to Vision Zero by funding resident-led projects to make Philadelphia’s public space safer and more appealing to pedestrians. The program has funded a total of 53 projects across Philadelphia since 2020, as seen in the poster below.

Projects have ranged from installing an artistic crosswalk along a commercial corridor in North Philadelphia to increase the visibility of pedestrian space and to slow vehicular traffic speed, to installing planters and bike racks to prevent illegal parking, to repairing sidewalks to improve accessibility for pedestrians, to a planning project that seeks to address the need for a safe pedestrian connection to park space in Wissahickon Valley Park. All the projects funded through Feet First Philly’s Public Space Enhancement Mini-Grant program, are community-led and help residents improve their public spaces and protect vulnerable road users in their neighborhood.
