Thank you to everyone who came out to support pedestrian safety and the East Coast Greenway on Spring Garden Street! Together we were able to identify issues for safety and comfort along this bustling corridor.
What did we find? Participants noted a hostile environment for pedestrians with a lack of trees and benches, and found the road felt more like a highway with large lanes and a lack of amenities to reduce noise. The combination of these factors lead 86 percent of participants to feel unsafe walking on Spring Garden Street.
The East Coast Greenway project along Spring Garden will attempt to remedy these issues for pedestrians and cyclists. Some changes to this project have been made since the website was created. The East Coast Greenway Project is a concept and the project has evolved in the capable hands of the City.
Thank you to our partners East Coast Greenway Alliance, 5th Square, and Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
