Over the past six months Feet First Philly has partnered with the Bicycle Coalition, AARP, and other mobility advocates to create the Better Mobility Platform. The platform calls attention to the lack of investment in sidewalk maintenance, lighting, and accessibility and demands mobility be prioritized in the next administration. The platform outlines four overarching goals and eight recommendations to ensure that Philadelphians have access to basic quality of life services. These include safe roads, sidewalks, access to high quality bike networks, efficient public transportation, and high quality public spaces. The first recommendation, “Prioritize Safe Streets” provides guidance on improving the pedestrian environment including to:

  • Prioritize enforcement of illegal parking on sidewalks and pedestrian rights of way
  • Create a Discrete Sidewalk Safety Program
  • Prioritize compliance with the Philadelphia city code to ensure safe pedestrian passageways at construction sites
  • Support and expand the current Philly Street Light Improvement project
