During 2023, Feet First Philly (FFP) hosted multiple walks and webinars, administered walk audits, and held our annual Public Space Enhancement Mini-Grant program. Earlier this year, we awarded more projects than ever before, and we are set to award even more at the start of 2024. We’re proud to have engaged with most of the mayoral candidates and generated information to help pedestrians make informed decisions while voting in the mayoral election this year. This was a successful year for pedestrians, and FFP will continue advocating for the rights of all pedestrians in 2024.

Read more about the major events and activities FFP was involved with in 2023:

  1. Mayoral Candidates’ Responses to the Survey – Feet First Philly distributed a survey asking Mayoral candidates where they stand on key pedestrian issues, compiled the answers to the survey, and also hosted a webinar to discuss what the mayoral candidates have to say about mobility.
  2. Before the general election in November Feet First Philly’s volunteer Charles Kopel compiled a voting history of the two candidates.
  3. In the effort to ensure that our next mayor prioritizes mobility, FFP joined the Better Mobility Platform with partners such as the Bicycle Coalition, AARP, and other mobility advocates.
  4. Through additional funding from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, FFP was able to fund six additional mini-grant projects in February.
  5. Feet First Philly also hosted several walks in different parts of the city. These walks include:
    1. Pedestrian Advocacy on Passyunk Avenue: Jane’s Walk
    2. Community Garden Tour in Powelton West Philadelphia
    3. East Falls Corridor Walking Tour
    4. Connecting Tacony to the Delaware River Walk
  6. Walk Audits continue to be a big part of Feet First Philly’s work with a walk audit course at Temple University followed by a walk audit in West Mt Airy.
  7. To finish off the year strong, Feet First Philly launched the 4th round of the Public Space Enhancement Mini-grant program on August 1st and received over 40 applications. After a long review process, we will be able to support more projects than any previous year, and will announce the awards in early 2024.

Here are some of the resources that Feet First Philly currently offers to solve pedestrian issues and enhance public space. Thank you to all our walk and event partners and to everyone who attended. We hope to see you in 2024!
